Toujours des coquelicots. Poppies

13 – 17 mai. Harry et Susan vont à Nice. Harry and Susan go to Nice

Once the kitchen was finished, and there were no more workers to wait for, we decided to go away for a few days.  Harry wanted to replace the top on his MX5 (Miata) and found a place in Nice who would do it.  So, off we went to the south.
We left 13th May, in the rain, unfortunately, but several hours later the sun came back.  First stop, the viaduct at Millau, an amazing construction, where, as always, it was windy and cool.  But spectacular.

Then to our hotel near Nimes, where we were the only guests.  I took advantage of the pool , despite the water being only 21. The walls and shutters went very well with the sky and the clouds.

Our dinner at the hotel - fine, but didn’t seem worth 28 euros.

Wednesday morning we stopped in Cannes, to chat with the woman who runs the company – without realizing that the Film festival started that day.  Lots of traffic along the coast, but we managed to find our hotel in Nice with the GPS, and spent two days walking around the city – except for the 3 hours Harry spent watching them install his famous top.

Les parcs.  The parks.

 La vielle ville

Et la mer.  And the sea.

I liked the buildings, and especially the balconies, some sophisticated, some not.

Thursday afternoon we had a bit of culture, at the Matisse museum, but the people in the surrounding park were almost more interesting.

Elle était presque la!  She almost made it.

Friday morning we were on the way home, with a stop for taps in a little cafe not far from Monpellier.

Notre hôtel près de Millau.  J’ai essayé de me baigner, mais l’eau était TRES froide.  La température descendait à 4 la nuit apparemment.
Our hotel near Millau.  I tried to swim, but the water was VERY cold - the temperature had gone down to 4 during the night apparently.

Notre apero, avec une coupe de champagne.  Our aperitif, with a glass of champagne.

L’amuse-bouche, une terrine de jeunes carottes.  The amuse-bouche, a terrine of young carrots.

A bottle of Pic St Loup, from Mas Thelema (one of our favourite vineyards in Stellenbosch is called Thelema
