27 juillet. Gravel around the pool, plus a reminder of Canada

We had 7 tones of gravel delivered, perhaps a a little too much, but at lest now they are spread around the edges of the pool.  Eventually Harry will plant lavender or perovskia (Russian sage) with some gaura.  But we wanted something to attract the ey to the end of the pool, and Harry thought of something to remind us of Canada – an Inuksuk  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inuksuk.  Our stones.

Se faire laver sa voiture – toujours intéressant. Having the car washed, always interesting.

What is more surprising here?  Jesus as a genius or Jesus the car wash.

7 juillet. Sortie à Paunat et à Trémolat. Our outing to Paunat and Trémolat

We went to our first meeting of the Society for Art and History of Sarlat and the Périgord Noir.  Recently we went to our first meeting:  ‘From mining to canons – the activity of masters of forges in the 18th century.  Actually more interesting than it sounds. This region produced many of the canons and ammunition used in the multiple wars of the 18th century.
View from the restaurant - Tremolat.

Inside view - always good to have some foie gras (Note: many courses omitted here - we were too busy eating.)

Eau de vie après le gâteau..  A little eau de vie to follow the cake

L’abbatiale à Paunat.  The former Cistercian abbey church, Paunat.
Yet another restaurant, although we didn't eat here.

1e juillet. La Fête Nationale de Canada – même à Carlux. Happy Canada Day from Carlux

Not great weather here, and the rest of the village is at the local garage sale, but at Le Fournil we’re celebrating Canada Day.
