Our last gym class, and we had a walk, even though it wasn’t great weather.

Notre Carlux - our village.

La piscine – ça creuse! The Pool – our ‘big dig’ 1 juin …. ?

When we got back from our winter in the sun, I convinced Harry that a pool would be good for our health – or at least for mine.  So we decided to go ahead with it, with construction scheduled for early May.  However, we needed approval from Batiments de France because we are close to our chateau (and two other historic monuments) and they found several slight problems in the request.  So delayed until end of May.  But now our pool project begins. This should take 8-10 days, we are told – and the guys work really hard. But there are pauses between different stages of construction. Herewith, the start.

31 mai – La photo ‘avant’.  The ‘before’ photo

1e jour/day : 1e juin

Machinery arrives, and they start to dig.

2e  jour/day : 4 juin
Ils continuent a creuser.
They continue to dig – this time in earnest.

La tranchée pour l’électricité.  The ditch for the electricity cable.

pas de gants, pas de casque.  No hard hats, safety shoes, gloves ...

3e jour/day : 5 juin
Ils consolident la piscine.  Beton ‘demi-sec’ autour.
Consolidating the pool – dry(ish) cement around it.

Toujours le téléphone – partout. Telephones everywhere.

Our pool, (3 m. x 9 m).in, all the earthwork done – we kept the earth, - cables buried, etc. Waiting for the next stage.

2e  étape, 4e  jour.  13 juin.  Stage 2, 4th day.
Encore du béton.  Maintenant il faut attendre que ça sèche.
More concrete. Now we have to wait for it to dry.

Lots of mud – it rained hard on Sunday.

Boys are all the same – they love to play.

3e  étape – 5e  jour.  27 juin
Installation of the liner and the electricity.  What you don’t see is that it was 38 degrees – and even hotter down in ‘the hole’ they tell me.

First they smooth it all down to eliminate holes, bumps, etc.

Puis un feutre sous le liner.
Then a felt pad under the liner.

Now the liner.  Note that it is beige – since we are close to our 12th century château, we have to follow the rules laid down by les Bâtiments de France – no blue.

Blue bags of salt, which will dissolve once the water gets that high

 21h, 27 juin.  L'eau commence  à arriver.
The water starts to accumulate.

28 juin 8h.
Water, lots of dead leaves, and a frog (or a toad?) already in the water.
 28 juin. 20h.

The pool is full !  We can finally stop the vacuum cleaner device, which has been running the whole time the pool has been filling, sucking out the air beneath the liner, so that there are no folds.

Et me voilà dans l’eau.  Here I am in the water.

4e étape – 6e jour. 3 juillet
Getting close to the finish line now.  The edging is done, and the electrics are all connected.

The electrician trying to avoid the nettles.
