The second Cooking Workshop at La Gabarre – picnic recipes, but not picnics that I’m used to. Boned quail, stuffed with foie gras.  Attention vegetarians, you may not want to look at the little heads.  Unfortunately it was 39 degrees, but we somehow survived.

Quails waiting to be poached.  Les cailles seront pochees.
Des legumes pour un type de ratatouille - on to vegetables,  for a kind of ratatouille.

Enfin prêt – finally ready.

Fête de la St Jean 25 juin– Feast of St John the Baptist

A traditional French festivity, mainly for the young, but the rest of us are allowed.  Originally they would have lit the bonfire, and eventually jumped over the embers .  I doubt that this happened, given the size of the bonfire!

Le jardin en juin. June in the garden

Developments in the garden.  Despite the country being in the throes of a drought – hottest, driest spring since 1900 – Harry’s garden continues to flourish.  And with the help of Daniel and Gaétan, and several tons of gravel, we now have paths and a terrace.
